Instead of doing anything productive with my weekend I hid from reality on the sofa under a pile of blankets. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking about an AU where Morrigan managed to successfully transfer the Dark Ritual to Elissa. Obviously, she’d have remained in Ferelden if it had worked, instead of running away either in anger (if turned down) or with the child (if the offer was taken). What sort of role would she end up having in that scenario? Adviser to the monarchs? Tutor and additional guardian to the prince, since the child is much more than just the crown prince of Ferelden? Both/neither/something else? Makes me wonder. Also makes me wonder how… heated… the discussion was where Elissa points out that if Morrigan is going to stay at court with them, she probably actually should dress appropriately for her position.
There is no Hawke. Varric made up that nickname for the Champion based on the shape of the Amell Family Crest. The Champion’s real name is unknown which is why the Chantry can’t find him/her.
Alternately, the head canon (not mine, but interesting as hell) where there is no Hawke: Varric invented the character as a catalyst and unifying force throughout the version of events he tells Cassandra. Why else would such a varied and often at-odds group of accomplices, for lack of a better term, come together over the years to change Kirkwall the way they had?
Alternately alternately (again not mine, less likely but still fun), some or all of the companions are invented characters for Cassandra’s benefit because Varric didn’t think she would believe him if he said a single man or woman was responsible for everything that happened.
I’d hope Cassandra would be smarter than trusting Varric’s story without asking a single other person in the whole city if there WAS a Champion Of Kirkwall known as Hawke to begin with. This would have to be one HUGE conspiracy.
I’m sure she is, but these are fun nonetheless and give room for AUs and what-ifs. Like I said, I can’t actually claim either of them; I saw them both on the old DA Headcanons blog almost a year ago. And I also don’t use either one for my actual head canon. But both are things I could see Varric trying if he were going to try and protect Hawke. ^_^
“Modern” elves in Thedas have lost their immortality, but what about the elders who already entered uthenera? Are they still capable of rewaking, and if so would they still be immortal?
